Now In Cinemas (Details and Recommendations)

The idea is to get the newly released movies in Nigerian cinemas and give my recommendations along with the current ratings from metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes. A lot of people call me regularly to ask for my opinion on what movies they should go watch in the cinemas which is why i’ve decided to restart this blog post which would be updated weekly (i hope).

This week the movies now showing in cinemas include Olympus Has Fallen starring Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman, and then there is Oz the Great And Powerful Starring: James Franco, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz.

Olympus Has Fallen
Director: Antoine Fuqua
Cast: Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Dylan McDermott, Radha Mitchell, Ashley Judd, Aaron Eckhart
Synopsis: When the White House (Secret Service Code: “Olympus”) is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped within the building. As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning’s inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President and avert an even bigger crisis. Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) directs an all-star cast featuring Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett, Melissa Leo, Ashley Judd and Rick Yune.- FilmDistrict

Rotten Tomatoes (audience reviews): 79%
IMDb: 7.1/10
Metacritic (User Score): 6.6/10
My Take: Its not a bad action flick even though i won’t be quick to watch it a second time. My advice, don’t go in expecting some sort of John McClane (Die Hard) moment because you wont get any.

Oz the Great And Powerful
Director: Sam Raimi
Starring: James Franco, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz
Synopsis: When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot-fame and fortune are his for the taking-that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity-and even a bit of wizardry-Oscar transforms himself not only into the great wizard but into a better man as well. When small-time magician Oscar Diggs (James Franco) pulls one flimflam too many, he finds himself hurled into the fantastical Land of Oz where he must somehow transform himself into the great wizard-and just maybe into a better man as well.- Walt Disney

Rotten Tomatoes (audience reviews): 64%
IMDb: 6.9/10
Metacritic (User Score): 6.3/10
My Take: If you like adventure themed movies you can check this one out. However the adventure is no where near the likes of Lord Of The Rings as “Adventure pass adventure” :D

Oh yeah Identity Thief is pretty much a lame movie so stay away from that one if you have a choice.

  • I was curious if you ever thought of changing the structure of one’s website? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you can a bit more in the way of content so individuals could connect with it better. Youve received an awful large amount of text for only having 1 or two images. Maybe you can space it out better?
