Kenyan actress, Lupita Nyong’o, who is one of the lead acts in this year’s hit movie 12 Years a Slave will not be attending the Italian premiere which she was supposed grace to introduce the picture.

According to Variety, the exact reason why she has decided to skip the premiere is yet to be revealed however the speculation is that it has something to do with the blunder (now being tagged racism act) committed by Italian distributor for 12 Years a Slave – BIM Distribuzione, where Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender were given the spotlight on the promo posters used in Italy while the original poster which featured the lead actor, Chiwetel Ejiofor, was not to be found.

Italian Posters for 12 Years a Slave

BIM Distribuzione released a statement some days after the posters first caught the attention of people saying – “We apologize for creating and releasing unauthorized posters for ’12 Years a Slave’ in Italy featuring Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender in a manner inconsistent with approved advertising materials. All inappropriate materials have now been withdrawn. We are very proud of the film and regret any distraction this incident may have caused.”

The claim by those in support of BIM’s actions is that Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender can sell tickets to go see the movie faster than Chiwetel Ejiofor’s name and picture on a poster. But it seems not everyone sees it that way.

The show will surely go on even if Lupita won’t be around for it so we’ll keep you posted should there be any additional information from the Italian premiere of the movie.
