The latest Marvel movie, Captain America: Civil War is currently showing in cinemas and its been receiving positive feedback since its premiere. However not everyone’s super impressed with all there is about the movie as Nigerians who are always quick to come to the defence of their country have been reacting online to the portrayal of Lagos state (one the Largest cities in Africa) in the movie, mainly lamenting the pronunciation of ‘Lagos’.
Just in case you missed the memo here’s the synopsis of the movie; Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
At this time i am not quite sure what the intention was when they first thought of including Lagos – Nigeria to the script. But for a movie this huge, i do agree with some of the comments on this subject matter, they could have done their homework and found the correct way to pronounce Lagos (leɪɡɒs) unless they really don’t care about which is the right or wrong way to pronounce it.
Check out some reactions to the portrayal of Lagos after the jump.

Dear Director of #CaptainAmerica :
1) thanks for including Chadwick. He's lovely. ❤️
2) its "lay-gos" not "lah-gos" (Lagos).

Was there some sort of copyright law that stopped them from pronouncing Lagos correctly in Captain America : Civil War? What is 'Lah-Gose''?

I was super impressed that the 1st scene of Captain America was shot in Lagos(Nigeria) until I heard how they pronounced 'Lagos'. Smh
