When I first heard of an Independence Day sequel the thought of seeing Will Smith back as Capt. Steven Hiller was a comforting and reason enough to be excited about the movie project, then we heard he was not going to be a part of the movie which was a let down as he would have provided a little something special to the sequel which comes 20years after the original movie.
20th Century Fox has finally released the first trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence giving us a glimpse of what is to come when the movie opens in cinemas June 24, 2016 and also released the plot for the movie which stars Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, Bill Pullman, Brent Spiner, Vivica A. Fox (so Will Smith’s wife in the movie is back), and Gbenga Akinnagbe .
Check out the synopsis, trailer and some speculation of what might have happened to Capt. Steven Hiller after the jump.
We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
According to the viral site for Independence Day Resurgence, Colonel Hiller died in 2007 during a military exercise – “While test piloting the the Earth Space Defense’s first alien hybrid fighter, an unknown malfunction causes the untimely death of Col. Hiller. Hiller’s valor in the War of 96 made him a beloved global icon whose selfless assault against the alien mothership lead directly to the enemy’s defeat. He is survived by his wife Jasmine and son Dylan.”
