The popular Charles Dicken novel Great Expectations has got another movie adaptation and this time David Nicholls came up with the screenplay while Mike Newell directed the movie which is set for release on the 30th of November 2012.
In the movie, Pip, the apprentice of a blacksmith, Joe Gargery, is allowed to become a playmate for Estella, the adopted daughter of Miss Havisham, a rich but emotionally damaged spinster, having been jilted at the altar some twenty or so years before. He harbours feelings for her, which intensify, but she has been taught to hurt men, and pushes him aside, as she doesn’t want to be in a position to break his heart. Matters become more complicated when Pip learns he has a benefactor that gives him the chance to ascend to the social position of a gentleman. Yet, nothing is as it seems, and he finds these circumstances inextricably linked to a frightening childhood encounter and to the woman of his dreams.
